Sponsored Walk 2018

We are holding our annual whole-school sponsored walk later this month.  We are hoping to raise in excess of £10,000 in order to support our chosen charity. The Olive Tree is a cancer support charity located in Crawley that aims to aid those going through cancer, or those with family in need. They provide a range of services to cancer patients, including complimentary therapies, emotional support, wellbeing programmes and benefits advice teams. They aim to make the lives of those going through cancer easier and help them through the emotional transitions that come with it.

Prior to the walk

Each student has a Sponsor Form and we would like students to approach people they know to see if they are willing to sponsor them.   If, on average, each student managed to secure £20 of sponsorship, we would be able to achieve our target, which would be simply amazing.  If students are unable to gain any sponsorship, we would still ask that they return the blank forms, to ensure that no form is unaccounted for.  In order that we can claim Gift Aid on behalf of sponsors, it is essential that names and addresses are provided and the Gift Aid box is ticked by individuals.

On the day

Students will need to arrive at school at the normal time, but wearing either fancy dress or their Oriel PE kit, and suitable footwear.  Please ensure that they bring hats and sun cream if it is sunny, and a bottle of water.  Please do check the weather forecast as the walk will go ahead if raining so please ensure that students are appropriately dressed. They must bring their sponsor forms with them as these are stamped along the route as evidence for sponsors that they have completed the route.  They are also registered at the checkpoints.

Students will be supervised by staff along the route (the Worth Way – return journey from Maidenbower to Crawley Down) and at crossing points. We will also have the assistance of our sixth formers who will be “human signposts” along the route in addition to all of our usual signposting.

We will all have lunch on the green in Crawley Down, and therefore we need students to bring a packed lunch on the day.  Students will have the opportunity to pre-order a packed lunch from the restaurant, if needed please can they let their mentor know if they require this. Toilet facilities will be available for us at Crawley Down.

Students will obviously travel at different speeds along the route, and once they have re-registered back at school (approximately 1.30-2.30pm) they will be free to go home if you wish.  Obviously, anyone choosing to run the return route will arrive back significantly before others.

We do require your consent to your child taking part in this event and therefore would be grateful if you could complete and return the consent form to mentors by TUESDAY 26TH JUNE 2018.

If you have any queries or if your child is unable to complete all or part of the walk due to medical reasons, please contact the Pastoral Coordinator for your child to see how we can help.

It promises to be a fantastic day.

Thank you, in advance, for your support additional information about The Olive Tree can be found at the following link: http://www.olivetreecancersupport.org.uk/

Yours sincerely
