It was with great pride that Oriel again staged another fantastic Remembrance Day ceremony in our inner courtyard. The ceremony moved to our inner courtyard in November 2012 so we could involve as many of our school community as possible. The courtyard allows for students and staff to either observe from outside or inside from windows surrounding the courtyard. For our students who are part of local cadet forces, Scouts or St John’s Ambulance we allow them to wear their uniform for the day. This adds tremendously to the sense of occasion. We also have had staff who have served in the armed forces for whom the occasion is very special. Many of our students wear poppies as a sign of remembrance, and they observe the two minutes silence during the ceremony with great respect and dignity.
It has become a key event in our school year. Our staff work hard for our students but every year we see our students time and time again rise to an event like this and show themselves off in the best way possible. The Remembrance day ceremony allows us all to have a moment to reflect and show our respect.
