PE Presentation Evening

The PE Department and Sports Captains organise and host an evening to celebrate the academic and extra-curricular success in PE and Sport at the end of each academic year. One of the highlights of the school calendar for students, staff and parents, the ceremony is well attended, and a fitting tribute to the dedication our students, staff and parents pay towards their studies and sporting achievements over the course of the three terms.

Run5k4NHS

During the period of school closure from March 2020, the Oriel community came together to run, walk, cycle (and in one case horse ride) 5 kilometres and then make a donation to the Run5k4NHS charity initiative raising funds for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trusts. A total of 641 participants took part, raising an incredible £7070 over the course of two months. Their efforts were not only celebrated in the local and County press, but also drew support, congratulations and admiration from sports superstars Dina Asher-Smith, Jofra Archer, Delray Rawlins and Karen Pickering MBE!

Specsavers ‘Virtual’ Sussex School Games

#TeamOriel took part in last summer’s eleven week long Specsavers ‘Virtual’ Sussex School Games event with the aim of keeping as many of our students and families active and competitive during the period of school closure.

Completing four sports challenges each week, which covered a range of sports from Boccia to Basketball, and Hockey to Cricket and Stoolball it was our aim to top the ‘Spirit of the Games Award’ table for achieving the highest number of school participants.

We were delighted therefore, to be the number one Secondary School in Crawley for each of the eleven weeks, and to also feature in the Top fifteen Secondary Schools in Sussex every week; we will be attempting to improve upon these achievements when participating in the upcoming ‘Winter Games’ edition of the competition.
